Cardinals
We will teach you the cardinal numbers in the format: number in digits - number in letters - pronunciation. What are the cardinal numbers in English? They are those that allow us do operations: add, subtract, divide ... Let's start with the first two tens. These numbers are the main ones and you should understand them very well.

After 12, the numbers follow a pattern in their writing: they end in "Teen". And they have the format (number + teen) with some exceptions like 13, 15 and 18.

After 19 comes another pattern: the ending of round numbers with "Ty." For example, the number twenty in English is written twenty. They keep the same previous format (number + ty), again, with exceptions. Within that group enter 20, 30, 40, 50 and 80, as shown below.

Study the numbers above carefully to take this next step. It will be a similar pattern, although, obviously, with its variations. The main idea is that you will make combinations using the term hundredweight to refer to "hundred" or "hundreds." For instance:
Number | in English | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
100 |
one hundred
|
uan handy |
200 |
two hundred
|
you hand |
300 | t
hree hundred

400 |

|

500 |

|

600 |
six hundred
|
six handred |
700 |
seven hundred
|
seven hand |
800 |
eight hundred
|
handred |
900 |
nine hundred
|
nain handred |
To write the rest of the numbers you will have to use the conjunction "and" As follows:
Number | in English | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
101 |
one hundred and one
|
uan handred ean uan |
125 |
one hundred and twenty five
|
uan handred ean tuenti faiv |
555 |
five hundred and fifty five
|
faiv hรกndred ean fifti faiv |
973 |
nine hundred and seventy three
|
nรกin hundred ean seventi zrii |
Then the rest of the units will come, which will be composed almost in the same way. The most important are Thousands (
) and millions (
). Look at the way to write some of these numbers.
Number | in English | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
1000 |
one thousand
|
uan zausand |
1100 |
one thousand one hundred
|
uan zausand uan handred |
2756 |
two thousand seven hundred and fifty six
|
you zausand seven handy ean fifti six |
724.658 |
seven hundred twenty four thousand six hundred and fifty eight
|
seven hรกndred tuenti foar zausand six hรกndred ean fifti รฉit |
Notice that in the last example we put first ยซ
" What does it mean seven hundred twenty four in Spanish.
And after that we put the word "thousand" to refer to thousand. In combination it remains: ยซseven hundred and twenty-four milยป. Now let's look at the units of millions.
Number | in English | Pronunciation |
---|---|---|
1.000.000 |
one million
|
uan milion |
1.100.000 |
one million hundred thousand
|
uan milion hรกndred zausand |
9.030.100 |
nine million thirty thousand hundred
|
nรกin milion zรฉrti zausand hรกndred |
70.060.023 |
seventy million sixty thousand twenty three
|
seventy milion sixti zausand tuenti zrii |
With this you can start study numbers in English, Obviously some more are missing, but with these it is enough so that little by little you begin to understand them.
Ordinals
Ordinal numbers, unlike the previous ones, are used to denote the position of an element, for example, in a competition. These are easier to learn. What you should keep in mind is that the first 3 numbers of each ten, with their exceptions, end in st (1), nd (2) and rd (3) and the rest in th.

Numbers in english for kids
There is no doubt that teaching English to children is not a task that we can consider as easy, in fact it is complicated, since the teacher or instructor must knowing how to understand children so that their methods can have convincing results. That is to say that it is not only about starting as if it were any class for young people or older children, but also that certain techniques must be used by means of which it will be possible to capture the child's attention to teach them English.
The best way in which children can be taught English is to show them this new language in the form of a game, that is, always look for the fun of the boysIn this way, it will not be difficult for them to pay attention, but it will be the opposite because they will like to play a lot to be able to learn the numbers in English. The child must feel involved in this atmosphere and must feel that everything that surrounds him is in English in order to feel much better.
So that children have the opportunity to learn numbers, let me tell you that you have a large number of games, songs and many methods, in fact the ideal is that you teach them the numbers from 1 to 10 and as they grow and depending on how adapt, you can choose to increase the number of numbers children are learning. In this way the children can easily learn the numbers in English and rest assured that you will see the results of their learning very clearly.
You can find many options to teach children and the truth is many of them are the responsibility of the teacher. Here we leave them for you, the vast majority that we could find:
English for children through videos
There is no doubt that the younger the children, the more appropriate it is to begin to instill the English language in them, however we can be sure that it is also more difficult, as kids have a hard time keeping their attention In something that they are learning, in fact it requires the use of special techniques, which will allow them to concentrate and have fun, because otherwise I think it will be very difficult to maintain their attention and ensure that the children can learn.
We especially want to focus on the issue of learning numbers, since whenever you teach English to a child you must start with the basics, that is, with vowels, the alphabet and numbers, you cannot begin to teach grammar to a child, but you must do it step by step.
For children, learning must be done in a totally interactive way, and this can be obtained through the use of videos, since as you already know children really love to watch tv, especially if it is cartoons. We recommend that you get videos that have cartoons with songs in which the numbers are expressed, in this way the boy will think that he is watching a television program and you will immediately capture his attention.
The images that these videos have, in addition to the pronunciation and sounds, will make the boy learn English in an easier way, there is no doubt that we are talking about one of the best techniques to take into account, because the use Today, this type of video material has become important to be able to learn English, especially for young children.
The years in English
Years in English are written and said in a different way. There are not many complications, you just have to separate the numbers in figures. The ways of writing the years also vary depending on the range in which they are, and also on some peculiarities.
The three ranges that exist are: from 1 to 999, from 1000 to 1999 and from 2000 onwards.
Del 1 al 999
These years, being of three digits, can be separated into two numbers, one of a figure and the other from two, for example:
Year | in English |
---|---|
738 |
seven thirty-eight
|
In Spanish it would be like saying "seven thirty-eight." You also have another way of writing them, which is the same as the ones you saw previously.
Year | in English |
---|---|
738 |
seven hundred and thirty eight
|
Either way is valid. In the first one you write the number of the first digit and then the combination between the two remaining digits. And in the second option you write the complete number. Pay attention to the following examples:
Year | in English | |
---|---|---|
22 |
twenty two
|
|
500 |
five hundred
|
five centennial |
200 |
two hundred
|
Two centennial |
889 |
eight hundred and eighty nine
|
eight eighty-nine |
999 |
nine hundred and ninety nine
|
ninety-nine |
607 |
six hundred and seven
|
six oh seven |
703 |
seven hundred and three
|
seven oh three |
Look at the first 3 examples, when is a year between 1 and 99, it cannot be decomposed into numbers. That also cannot be done if it is a centennial year. In that case it is accepted to place the word hundred or centennial. Now pay attention to the last two examples, notice that there is an "oh" instead of "zero". You should do it like this whenever you want to refer to 0 in the years. The following examples are one way incorrect to write them:
Year | in English |
---|---|
607 |
six zero seven
|
703 |
seven zero three
|
Del 1000 al 1999
These years, being composed of 4 figures, it is possible to divide them into equal parts and write them that way. For instance:
Year | in English |
---|---|
1001 |
ten oh-one
|
1324 |
thirteen twenty-four
|
1777 |
seventeen seventy-seven
|
1980 |
nineteen eighty
|
There are exceptions here too, this time with the years ending in two zeros (0) like the following:
Year | in English |
---|---|
1000 |
ten hundred
|
1200 |
twelve hundred
|
1700 |
seventeen hundred
|
1900 |
nineteen hundred
|
The first two digits are written as a cardinal number from 10 to 19, and the two zeros (0) are represented by the word "hundred".
From 2000 onwards
The first 9 years of 2000 are written in the same way that we already showed you in the cardinal numbers:
Year | in English |
---|---|
2000 |
two thousand
|
2005 |
two thousand and five
|
2009 |
two thousand and nine
|
From then on they can be written separating them in two, as we did with previous years, or done as a natural number.
Year | in English | |
---|---|---|
2010 |
two thousand ten
|
twenty ten |
2014 | t
wo thousand fourteen
|

2020 |

|
