Characteristics of the numbers in Italian

Actually, the numbering rules are somewhat simple and have a lot in common with other languages.

• As you can see from the list, the numbers zero through ten have specific names, as in most numbering systems.
• From eleven to sixteen the numbers are formed by the root of the number followed by ten. For instance: undici (11) twelve (12), etc. On the other hand, from seventeen to nineteen the order is reversed, that is, first the ten is placed and then the unit. For instance: disciassette (17) eighteen (18) and nineteen (19).
• In the case of tens, we find specific names based on the root of the figures, except in the case of ten and twenty, as can be seen in the list of numbers.
• On the other hand, in compound numbers we find a composition that is obtained by juxtaposing the ten and the unit, which causes an apocope of the vowel at the end of the ten before a number that begins with a vowel, such as case of one or eight. For instance: ventuno (21) tempted (32), etc
• The hundreds are made up by prefixing the word of one hundred by the multiplying number. For instance: duecent (200) three hundred (300), etc
